LCD technology actually involves pouring liquid crystals between two columns of finely grooved planes. And the grooves above these two planes are perpendicular to each other (intersecting 90 °). So, if molecules on one plane are arranged in a north-south direction, then molecules on the other plane are arranged in an east-west direction, and molecules located between the two planes are directly forced into a 90 ° twisted state. Due to the fact that light propagates along the direction of molecular arrangement, it must also be twisted 90 ° when passing through liquid crystals. But when we apply a voltage to the liquid crystal, the molecules will rearrange vertically, allowing light to be emitted directly without any twisting.
