Difference Between Static Drive And Dynamic Drive Of LCD Liquid Crystal Screen

Aug 13, 2023|

What is the static driving of the LCD screen? The so-called static driving of the LCD screen means that the driving voltage is continuously applied to the pixel electrodes and common electrodes of the display until the display time ends. Since the driving voltage remains unchanged during the display time, it is called static driving of the LCD screen. What is its rationale?

Basic principle: A continuous electric field or no electric field is applied between a pair of corresponding electrodes.

driving waveform

Depending on this signal, the segment waveform is in phase or out of phase with the common waveform. When in phase, there is no electric field on the liquid crystal, and the liquid crystal screen is in a non-gated state. When the phase is reversed, a rectangular wave is applied to the liquid crystal. When the voltage of the rectangular wave is much higher than the threshold of the liquid crystal, the liquid crystal screen is in a gated state.

Static drive, in which an electric field is continuously applied or not applied between a pair of corresponding electrodes. According to the electrical signal, the segment waveform is in phase or opposite to the common waveform. In phase, there is no electric field on the liquid crystal, and the LCD is in a non-gated state.

When the phase is reversed, a rectangular wave is applied to the liquid crystal. When the voltage of the rectangular wave is much higher than the threshold of the liquid crystal, the LCD is in a gated state. When there are many display pixels on a liquid crystal display device such as a dot matrix liquid crystal display device, in order to save the huge hardware drive circuit, the fabrication and arrangement of the electrodes of the liquid crystal display device are processed to realize a matrix structure, that is, a horizontal group of display pixels is divided into two groups. The back electrodes are connected together and are called row electrodes.

The segment electrodes of a group of vertical display pixels are connected together and led out, which are called column electrodes. Each display pixel on a liquid crystal display is uniquely determined by its column and row position. The driving method adopts the raster scanning method similar to CRT accordingly.

The dynamic driving method of the liquid crystal display is to cyclically apply selection pulses to the row electrodes, and at the same time all the column electrodes that display data give corresponding selection or non-selection drive pulses, so as to realize the display function of all display pixels in a row. This progressive scan, with a short period, results in a stable image on the LCD screen. We call the scanning driving method of the liquid crystal display the dynamic driving method.
